Source code patches
I’ve began doing this as of the last two or so days ago (the week starting with June 15, 2025), partly inspired by the people at pkgsrc and Nishi, obviously.
Only done out of boredom, though.
DarkPlaces
This is a game engine originally based on id Tech 2 (the “Quake” engine) that can handle both the original games and then some, including Xonotic.

So far an actually maintained source port of Duke Nukem 3D, its homepage speaks for itself
FTE QuakeWorld
FTE is a highly versatile game engine originally based on QuakeWorld.
